A number of factors in the marketplace increased consideration for financial institutions to work with Elan, including: an ultra-aggressive card rewards environment, continually increasing compliance burdens, increasing focus on efficiency, and the digital technology expectations of cardmembers.  These factors, among others, motivated a growing number of financial institutions to utilize Elan’s solutions.

ELAN OFFERS GEOLOCATION APP THAT CAN HELP REDUCE FRAUD, CARD DECLINES

MINNEAPOLIS (Nov. 2, 2016) – Elan Financial Services is now offering a Geolocation Service app that will match the location of a credit card transaction with the location of the user’s phone.

The VISA-developed Geolocation Service is a new, opt-in technology available through Elan partner credit unions via the Elan mobile app that will show that the user is actually in the location of the transaction. By matching the location, Elan can help ensure that transactions on customers’ cards are approved, minimizing disruption and further reducing the risk of fraud.

John Owens, senior vice president and general manager, Elan Credit Cards, said, “When your member’s phone is on and they’ve opted-in for geolocation, Elan can validate that the expense is legitimate and avoid member frustration. The last thing your members want to worry about when they’re away on vacation is whether their credit card will be declined because the transaction is in New Orleans and the customer lives in San Diego.”

The technology is being offered to Elan’s credit union partners to help them deliver a more convenient and more secure payment experience wherever consumers might travel.

MINNEAPOLIS (March 23, 2015) – Elan Financial Services (Elan) and Air Academy Federal Credit Union (AAFCU) have recently renewed their partnership to solidify a commitment to the continued progress in growing AAFCU’s credit card program. Since moving the portfolio to Elan at the end of 2011, AAFCU’s program has steadily grown, realizing a 38 percent increase in active cardholders over the last two years.

MERIWEST CREDIT UNION ENJOYS DOUBLE-DIGIT ACCOUNT ACQUISITION SUCCESS WITH ELAN FINANCIAL SERVICES

MINNEAPOLIS (September 25, 2014) – Elan Financial Services (Elan) and Meriwest Federal Credit Union (Meriwest CU) have recently marked the anniversary of a successful two year partnership. Meriwest has gained a double-digit branch account acquisition success due to Elan’s turnkey marketing program. With this program success, Meriwest decided to outsource their credit card program to Elan.

Members are highly engaged with the new program and Meriwest has seen a 20 percent increase in sales per account and a 50 percent decrease in card attrition attributed to simplified products that fit the right needs of Meriwest members. Meriwest initially struggled with the decision to outsource their credit card program to Elan for fear of losing control with the member experience.

“There are no issues from a member service standpoint as Elan has responded well to our members’ needs,” said Tony Cortez, senior vice president, chief experience officer for Meriwest. “We never felt as if we lost control over the member experience. Our brand, and marketing program are protected and we approve all communications. It is transparent to members that Elan is servicing the account. We couldn’t be happier with the overall partnership.”

One critical success factor is an ongoing focus on engaging branch personnel in the cross-sell of the credit card program. Through branch marketing campaigns and the introduction of new rewarding products, Elan has helped Meriwest increase its credit card penetration into its member base to 20 percent.

“The incredible level of success that Meriwest has realized is a testament to how a highly engaged institution like Meriwest can sustain a foundation of growth with Elan’s marketing expertise,” said John Owens, senior vice president of Elan Financial Services.”

“We couldn’t be more pleased with how the program continues to thrive,” said Julie Kirsch, chief executive officer for Meriwest. “The level of support that we receive from Elan coupled with our drive to grow the program is the perfect formula for success. Our members enjoy the wide variety of products offered, and our staff has a high degree of success in placing them in the product that best fits their needs.”

ELAN NOW OFFERS VISA PAYMENT CONTROLS SERVICE FOR SMALL-BUSINESS OWNERS

MINNEAPOLIS (March 20, 2014) – Elan Financial Services (Elan) now offers Visa Payment Controls, which gives small-business owners control over how, when and where their employees’ business credit cards are used.

“Visa Payment Controls lets small business owners spend more time focused on their business and less time worrying about how their business credit cards are being used by their employees,” said John Owens, senior vice president of Elan. “Combined with our exclusive and free FlexControl options and ScoreBoard reporting tool, we’re offering small businesses powerful applications to help them control and track business credit card spending, while also cutting down on administrative work.”

With easy, online management controls, Visa Payment Controls lets small business owners manage how employees can use their cards based on:

• Time of day or day of week

• Geographical area

• Certain merchant types

• Dollar amount

• Transaction types, such as cash advances or cash withdrawals

For example, the owner of a delivery company could set controls that allow drivers to use their business credit card only during certain times of the day with a cap on daily spending. The owner could also set-up alerts to be notified when transactions are blocked because they’re outside parameters set on a particular card. Controls can be applied or removed in real-time, giving business owners complete flexibility over managing their employee card usage.

“With Visa Payment Controls, business owners can replace inefficient and costly cash and check systems with secure, reliable and convenient employee credit cards and automatically take greater control over employee spending,” Owens said.

HARBORSTONE CREDIT UNION RENEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH ELAN FINANCIAL SERVICES AND COMPLETES CREDIT CARD PORTFOLIO ACQUISITION

MINNEAPOLIS (January 29, 2014) – Elan Financial Services (Elan) and Harborstone Credit Union (Harborstone) have renewed their partnership for another five years and successfully completed the credit card portfolio acquisition pertaining to their recent merger with Prevail Credit Union.

“Today, we have a better and bigger card program, offering more rewards and choices for our members,” said Phil Jones, CEO, of Harborstone Credit Union. “It all happened without any direct cost to the credit union and with revenues that have met and exceeded the net revenue before our Elan program due to the more than doubling of outstanding balances. We explored options for our credit card program and determined that Elan offers the best combination of service, products and pricing.  Elan has been an excellent partner, actively consulting with us to match our needs with their services.”

The initial decision to outsource was not an easy one for the Harborstone executive team. They determined that their credit card portfolio had stagnated and the credit union did not have sufficient resources to remain competitive with the national issuers bombarding their members.

Harborstone performed a two-year-long, in-depth analysis of all options available to them. The next step was to conduct detailed due diligence that vetted multiple partner companies. In the end, Harborstone selected Elan based on the proposed total program experience, portfolio management program, and remuneration to the credit union.

“While we revisit this decision from time to time, it remains one of the smartest strategic moves we have made,” John Renforth, SVP/Chief Sales & Service Officer said. “Evidence for this is based on the overall quality of the card program for our members and their increased card usage, the sustained revenue generated for the credit union, and the elimination of significant annual expenses and loss reserves.”

"We could never have matched the card management that Elan brings in terms of aggressive portfolio management, cutting-edge marketing and card-program offers. They are real pros and keep our card offerings among the best in the market.” said Phil Jones, CEO.

“We are thrilled that Harborstone has renewed its partnership with Elan,” said John Owens, Senior Vice President of Elan Financial Services. “The support that the program has received is woven into the sales culture at Harborstone and will continue to be successful because of management’s full support. We couldn’t be more excited about what is to come”
